Small-scale farmers receive cash aid from govt


DURBAN – Thousands of small-scale farmers in KwaZulu-Natal will finally receive some cash donations to save their struggling businesses.

They have been waiting for weeks for these funds from the Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development department.

Yasmin Ismail a farmer said the government has assisted her with the problems she raised on her application for relief during the pandemic.

Ismail said she was confused about her own role in the lockdown, while she was dealing with employees who could not come to work.

“We were all confused [about] the COVID. Should we go to work? Should we not go to work? We are also workers at the farm, even though we are owners,” she said.

Ismail said the relief package will have a great benefit to her as she resumes her business.
